About the photographer, Ben Smith

I began shooting weddings many years ago, initially for various friends who were looking for a contemporary, creative approach to their wedding photography. As a photojournalist and documentary photographer, I decided to approach these weddings exactly as I would any other assignment: by telling the story of the day, discreetly and unobtrusively capturing candid, natural moments in a relaxed and informal manner, without fuss or interference. This way of working proved a great success and I have been doing exactly the same for my clients ever since.

I am based in London but routinely travel all over the UK and Worldwide. When I'm not photographing weddings, I divide my time between personal documentary projects, commercial 'lifestyle' shoots for big brands and editorial commissions, mainly shooting portraits of the great and the good for magazines and newspapers. I believe this breadth and diversity of professional experience is reflected in the quality of my wedding images and is what gives me an edge over much of the competition.
